Kimmo Helén is a Finnish composer and multi-instrumentalist working with film, documentary and other visual media. His musical roots span Nordic folk, rock and experimental music.
Helén’s work combines hands-on musicianship with contemporary music production, using acoustic instruments, electronics and unusual textures. Each project calls for its own musical approach, developed in close dialogue with the story and the production.
His credits include films and documentaries in Finland and internationally. In 2019, he received the Best Original Score award at the Midwest Horror Film Festival for the short film Alisa. His score for the documentary Lynx Man, performed by the Tallinn University String Orchestra and Head, Ööd, Vend choir, was nominated for Film Music Innovation of the Year by Teosto and Gramex.
