Kimmo Helén is a Finnish composer working with film, documentary and other visual media.
His musical background combines traditional Nordic folk music, rock and experimental sound practices. This has led to a versatile and genre-fluid approach to composition.
Helén’s work emphasizes finding the right sonic identity for each project — whether through acoustic ensembles, electronics or unconventional instruments. Rather than applying a fixed style, his music is shaped by the narrative, emotional tone and visual language of the film.
His portfolio includes music for films, documentaries and commercials in Finland and internationally. In 2019, he received the Best Original Score award at the Midwest Horror Film Festival for the short film Alisa.
Recent work includes the documentary Lynx Man, featuring music performed by the Tallinn University String Orchestra and Head, Ööd, Vend chamber choir. The score was nominated for Film Music Innovation of the Year by Teosto and Gramex.
