Hand crafted music for film and media
Helén’s musical journey started at the age of six when he was introduced to the world of traditional Finnish folk music and began playing the violin. During his teenage years, rock music and various band instruments became an integral part of his musical repertoire. Kimmo´s music has consistently defied rigid genre boundaries, reflecting his curiosity as an explorer of novel instruments, sounds, and methods to enhance the core concept of each project at hand.
Helén’s portfolio includes compositions for a wide range of media, encompassing film, documentaries, and commercials, both domestically and internationally. In 2019 he received recognition for Best Original Score at the Midwest Horror Film Festival for his work on the horror short film ”Alisa.”
His most recent work for the documentary “Lynx Man” gave him the opportunity to compose music to be performed by Tallinn university string orchestra and Head, Ööd, Vend chamber choir. This also led to a nomination for Film Music Innovation of the Year by Teosto and Gramex, Finnish copyright collecting societies.
In addition to his work in film composition, Helén has maintained an active presence in the music scene, collaborating with various bands. In 2017, the renowned Finnish label Svart Records released his debut solo album, receiving acclaim and garnering numerous positive reviews from the Finnish music press. His involvement with the band Hexvessel has included multiple album contributions and extensive European tours, with notable appearances at US festivals such as South by Southwest in Austin, TX.
In 2016 Helén toured alongside the Icelandic band Solstafír as a viola player within a string quartet.
